The Night Before School Starts…My First Currently!

I have known Farley for years and never got around to joining her September Currently Linky.  It is 3 am the night before school starts and I cannot sleep.  I went to sleep at 10 pm and I guess my mind is over nervous that I am going to oversleep!….so of course I get up and blog.

When I presented in Vegas, many new bloggers asked how to gain followers and my number one tip was to join a linky and my number two was leave meaningful comments on blogs!   Farley’s current linky has over 380 link ups!  Wow.

*I would like to do a post with links to all the recurring linkys for bloggers asking for ways to build a blog following.  If you have a linky, please comment and I will refer back to it when I write my post (after back to school settles down).

Listening: The sound of crickets actually drives me nuts when I am trying to sleep!  I don’t have AC in my office, so I am hearing them now.  My room has AC and I like the noise!  I wonder how I am going to get to sleep without AC.  Can you say in the 90s for our temps in NY?  Where was the 90 degrees this summer.
Loving:  I love my gold Tory Burch Miller Sandals!  I also love gold bohemian style earrings.  Check out my new office accessories…notice a trend?
Thinking:  I am thinking about my first day with my kiddos tomorrow.  It is also my nephew’s first day of first grade!  Last year, Farley was sweet enough to send me this template she made for her son.  I adapted it for Dylan again this year!  I am so proud that I have helped develop his love of animals with my ever revolving door of foster animals.

Wanting:  More sleeveless dresses!!!  It is going to be in the 90s this week and we have no AC.   I am going to look like a hot mess by the end of each day.

Needing:  To fall back asleep.  I am going to put some lavender essential oil on and hope it helps!

3 Trips:  Greece because it just looks beautiful.  England because I was an English major in college and I am a huge Jane Austen fan.  Hawaii because it just looks gorgeous!

Night or actually, morning to you all!  Don’t forget to check out Farley’s post by clicking HERE!

    Hi Erica,

Oh, I hope you got some sleep! The night before the first day of school always makes me nervous but you definitely need a good night's rest to hit the ground running. 🙂 We are just coming out of Winter here, and I must admit that I'm not looking forward to Summer temperatures just yet. We have just needed to turn the ceiling fan on to sleep at night – here by the beach in Queensland it gets pretty hot around the end of September.

Hope that your first day of school was wonderful! 🙂

Oh goodness – I can't even imagine still being away at 3am! We had our first day yesterday so I slept like a rock last night! It was super hot in our building yesterday. Fortunately my room has AC so many of the classroom teachers would pass through just for a shot at some cooler air! I'm glad it will be a bit cooler today. I hope you get some sleep and your first day goes really well!
    Thanks for sharing

Well, I went to bed at 10 but woke up at 3 am and went and printed stuff. Then I felt better and slept. There are a few classrooms with AC for the special needs students, I may have to just stand in there for a bit, or use their room to read a story when they are at special.

I hope you got a little sleep last night. I will be that way tonight. My firsties come tomorrow. I love the gold. 🙂 Have a wonderful day today with your class.
I would love to visit all those places too. My cousins just went to Hawaii this summer and came back with some amazing stories. Someday. 🙂

Oh gosh, I was awake then too! And today isn't my first day of school. Just woke up at 2:00 and didn't get back to sleep until 4:00. Of course all those school things running through my head. Hopefully you were able to get a little rest before you welcome all your kiddos. And I LOVE Jane Austen too!

Hope you have a great first day!!! Our school is brutally hot. My classroom has been reaching temps of 95 w/no AC. I've been trying to dress as cooly as possible. We're not even supposed to wear sleeveless (as per the dress policy). Right now, fans are my friend!!! Good luck staying cool…

I hope you got some sleep and had a great first day back! 🙂 I'm freezing in my room already thanks to chilly, rainy days so far, but don't envy you the super hot temps.

Hawaii was one of my choices for my "Currently" link-up too! Seemed to be a top choice for a lot of the link-up posts that I read. It looks like it would be such a beautiful place to vacation! Good luck dealing with the heat this week…no AC = ick!!!

I don't know how you ladies teach in these temps without air conditioning! We all thought we were going to die when our AC went out in our building for two hours!! I would have boob sweat for days if I had to live without it all day every day. How do you explain THAT to first graders?? 🙂 Hope your first day went well!

It is so stinkin' hot here too! Air conditioning is a beautiful thing (until I see my bill).
LOVE all the gold accents! Hobby Lobby has quite a few gold accent items right now. Do you have those there?

You poor girl! I hate sleepless nights and first day jitters! We don't have AC at school, and of course, it's been blazing hot this first week! I like to sleep with the air purifier on for background noise. It's perfect in the winter months! Maybe that can be your go to when it's time to shut the AC off! Hope you had a great first day!

These are my absolute favorite first-week books for building classroom community, easing those first-day jitters, and setting a positive tone from day one.
From Our Class is a Family, All Are Welcome, The Book of Rules, and so many more — these stories never miss.

I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.
