Shoportunity

Marshall’s just so happens to be on my way home from the gym, next to Dollar Tree, and in the same shopping center as The LOFT.  So I know I am bad, but just about every Saturday, after my 9 am gym class, I stop there.  Today I found some great goodies for the classroom and for myself.  I knew that you, my blogging buddies, would appreciate the finds, so I had to share!!

First up is this lovely polka dot outdoor tub for $7.99.  I plan on using this for buddy reading materials, as my lime green box is fading in the sun.

Next up, are these awesome dominoes from the children’s department.  They were on clearance, too.  I do so much fact family work with dominoes and my old ones were looking gross.  I love that they have different colored dots for each number!  The deluxe bingo set is for a sweet colleague of mine who loves to borrow mine.  I think it is great for number recognition and a favorite game of my students.
My favorite thing about Marshall’s is the shoe department!  I picked up these blue wedge sandals, because I love to wear wedges in the spring/summer.  They are so comfortable and yet they still give me some height.  The problem with the blue shoes was that I had nothing to match them.  They are a cobalt blue. Sorry, the pictures are not so hot, I need to replace my broken camera ASAP.  I promise to put it on my “To Do” list for this week off.
The problem was easily solved!  Marshall’s had these three cute dresses in the same color and this Steve Madden tote.  I am not sure if all the dresses fit or if I will keep them all.  At least, that is how I justified to myself buying three dresses at once.
Stay tuned as I plan on making another St. Patrick’s Day unit and use these finds from Dollar Tree and Party City.

LOVE your finds!!!! I love Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Home Goods!! You never know what treasures you'll find! I have a Polka Dot theme and would LOVE that tub! I also have a Silhouette Cameo and would love to slap some vinyl on it! The dresses and shoes make me wish spring was here now!

Is a Silhouette Cameo one of those cutting machines? I have to look into those. I know, it feels like spring is coming soon! We have not had one real snow storm here in NY. Last year we had a few snow days.

I love mine just too busy to make things….Now were the buckets at Dollar Tree or Party City as I have a thing for buckets in the classroom (ok fine I hoard them) and I have run out of green ones to match 🙂 Thanks for sharing 🙂

The small buckets were from Dollar Tree and the coins and St. Pat's erasers were from Party City.

Where do you teach, Reagan? I can't believe you don't get presidents day off….what a shame! (although, I chose not to teach this year…so I really can't have that much of an opinion…but the tragedy!!!)

Hope you get a long spring break

I have to stop reading your blog because every time i see your good deals i have to go out get them too! (which is especially dangerous for a student teacher with ZERO income!)
I love Marshal's too and that bag is soooo cute. I may have to go check if my Marshal's has it. Hope you don't mind:) I love the dresses too, wish I had your figure!
Also, I am going to have to go get the St. Patrick's Day stuff before it is all sold out from the dollar store. Apparently we pretend that Leprechauns come to our classroom each year and we celebrate the holiday with fun games and activities. So I'm gonna have to get creative over here(that, or start pinteresting like crazy looking for the perfect craft!)
    Have a great weekend!

Gosh, I so wish I didn't have to drive 2-4 hours to get to stores like Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Hobby Lobby, etc. Although I feel like I would spend so much more money if I had all those stores right where I live. Love all the cute new things.

    • Erica Bohrer

We don't have a Hobby Lobby. Is that like a craft store?

Cute finds! Did you happen to make it to Loft? I have avoided it since Christmas but everyday I have to fight the urge to check out their site 🙁

    • Erica Bohrer

      February 19, 2012 at 4:32 am

I went to the LOFT two weekends ago and cleaned out their clearance section. I got all this stuff on final sale. One of the perks of being tiny is that there is always an xs left. For the LOFT, I don't believe in buying anything until it is marked down. I saw an adorable navy striped dress at the LOFT, but even at 40% off new arrivals, it was not worth it for something I could not wear now. The Marshall's dresses were all around $20. So I thought it best to scoop them up and save them till the weather gets warmer.

I love the green dress you got at Marshall's!!! I never shop at Marshall's TJ max or Ross…I really need to start looking there! I just can't stand the clutter and chaos of those stores…I feel overwhelmed and I end up wanting everything and buying nothing… My fav. store is Express (when they have their awesome sale) and I love – love -love shoes. I have a bit of an obsession with the Jessica Simpson line…I haven't got to buy shoes in a while…mostly because I am not teaching this year & I really don't need anymore shoes, but I have quite a collection…hehehe…love those blue shoes…too cute!

    Thanks for sharing the bargains we can drool over (-;

I used to work at Express when I was in college. I spent more than I made! I don't really shop there anymore. I try to avoid the mall. I like the hunt of Marshall's and feeling like I found some good deal. My friend Karen feels the same way as you about Marshall's and won't even go.

I have to post my shoe closet photo sometime! I have them in clear bins with photos on the outside. I love, love, shoes! When I find boots I like, I buy them in brown and black. I got a great comfy pair in brown and in black from the Kenneth Cole outlet. They were $50 each, so I justified that the two pairs added up to the cost of one. I have a problem…shopping makes me way too happy.

Oh, I totally understand! When I find something that I like, and it looks great on me, I buy it in multiple colors. I have the same issues with shoes, I've got to have it in black and brown. I love the polka dot tub! That's how my room is decorated, and it would fit perfectly!

Gotta let you know that I bought some buckets similar to yours from Family Tree and used my Cricut to cut out different circles. Just shared them on my blog and they look adorable. Now gotta plan what I want to do with them in March. Your Seuss stuff looks great, too.

I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.
