For our Penguin Day on Friday, we are doing some activities from my Penguin packet, a variation of my free penguin math activity, and Deanna Jump‘s blubber experiment.
I wanted to use the book Pink! by Lynne Rickards last week to teach about alliteration and to tie in with our penguin unit, but I never got around to it. This week, I plan to use the book and use the adorable Sarah Cooley‘s cute penguin craft (free). Instead of them all making their penguins in pink, I will let the students pick their favorite color and make their penguin that color. When they do their writing, they will use alliteration. So it would be something like Gregory the Green Penguin.

I love how you celebrate half birthdays and let the kids take the class pet home on the weekends. This CH resource looks great, the kids must go crazy when you create a new center for them! Thanks for sharing about your week. Have a good one.

Thanks! I found it was just way too many birthdays to celebrate the last week of school if I waited until June to celebrate the summer birthdays. The kids love taking home the class pets! They countdown the days. I just glad I don't have to take them home on top of all the other stuff I drag back and forth to school!

I really love how you manage your plans and homework. Is the spelling packet you refer to in your homework the one posted on TPT? If so, how do you manage it for homework (ie do you send a few pages home they can choose, have laminated pages, etc.)? My routine is getting stale and not very motivating. I think yours could work well with my kiddos. Thanks for any response but no worries if you are too busy! I have no idea how you do what you do, I'm struggling with just a family and teaching let alone blogging and writing too! You are amazing!

Hi Erica! I love all of your ideas. I own many of your packs including long vowels. I just read your plans and saw you did Go Math. I love that it is common core aligned but find it dry. Our school is working out of the workbook. What do you use to supplement? Do you sell centers to go with the units? I'd love to buy them!

In NY they want us to use the Engage NY program and talk about BLAND. It is black and white copies and not kid friendly at all. We are begging to keep Go Math. I will still do my math centers to keep my students engaged and loving math. Good luck and thanks for your comment!
