The Hunger Games

Did you know the number one selling unit of all time, on Teachers Pay Teachers, was created around a book called The Hunger Games.  The English major/certified English teacher in me had to check out the book.  I did and I loved it!  For the past three days, my life has been consumed with finishing the book.  It is that good!  The book is along the same lines as the The Giver in that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world.  The love triangle will remind you of The Twilight Series or even Wuthering Heights.  I highly recommend reading this book.  I am now on the second book in the trilogy and anticipate another late night of reading.

I LOVE the Hunger Games Series! Go ahead and have the 3rd book on hand so you can start reading immediately when you are done with the 2nd one. The movie is coming out in late, and I absolutely can't wait!

Is this not the best series (beside Harry Potter, of course!)??? I read it over Christmas Break and COULDN'T put it down. I remember staying up until 2am finishing that 3rd one. It is sooo good!

I loved this entire series! I am excited about the movie, but realize it may let me down… As most movies based on books do. 🙂

It's a very good series! I can't wait for the movie!

I also enjoyed Divergent by Veronica Roth. Also a Young Adult Dystopian novel like The Hunger Games or The Giver.

I loved the Hunger Games series. I couldn't put it down. After I read the second book, I had a hard time waiting for the third one to come out. You should read Matched by Ally Condie. It's another great teen book along the same lines as the Hunger Games. It's the first book in a series but the second book hasn't come out yet.

I read this over Christmas break and I couldn't put it down!! I read the whole series like BaM! I was on vaca with the inlaws and they were making fun of me. The last book was my least fav. but they were all good! Def. not appropriate for my 3rd graders.

I LOVED this series! It was even better because I was able to read it with my 14 year old daughter. It was great being able to discuss it with her. I can't wait until it is made into a movie.

The series has been my favorite summer read so far! I've just begun the third book. I'll be sad when it's over.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the series. Read it twice, then convinced my husband to read it, too. The movie comes out on March 23rd (which just happens to be MY BIRTHDAY!) It's like a special birthday present to me for being a fan!

Thanks so much for the mention, Erica! 🙂 I'm so glad you are enjoying the novels. I agree with those who say get the third now! You'll want to dive right in reading it. For those who like Hunger Games & Harry Potter, I've been involved with The Potter Games project, which is a game you can play where Harry Potter characters are thrown into The Hunger Games! It's so crazy, but fun to help write. Fills the gap until The Hunger games movie comes out – March 23rd, 2012. http://www.thepottergames.com

Loved the series!!! I could not put it down. When I read them the 3rd book was not out yet and I was going mad waiting for it last summer. I laughed, I cried, I yelled (I'm an emotional reader!) and repeated those emotions again. I cannot wait for the movie. I am very happy that the writer is VERY involved with the director of the film…unlike the Percy Jackson series (huge disappointment in the theaters!). Have you read the Mortal Instruments series? Another great YA series!

Everyone in the comments above have said everything I want to say! I wish we could all sit down and talk about it! My whole family was making fun of me because I told them I HAD to talk about it and tried to explain how my reality TV addiction is displayed in this book with the games being televised!!! They just did NOT get it! I read all 3 in about 5 days and hope the movies do not disappoint me!
    Enjoy the reading!!

I borrowed my daughter's kindle because I was bored one night….she already had the trilogy downloaded so I thought I would read the first one. Well, three days later, I finished all three books! Katniss is my hero! I thought it couldn't get better than Harry Potter. Then Twilight came out and I thought nothing would top those! I was wrong! Hunger Games is now my all time favorite series! The last was a bit of a disappointment, but I still enjoyed it!

I downloaded The Hunger Games on my Kindle in May, and then I flew threw all three books in the series. LOVE THEM! 🙂 I can't wait for the movie to come out, but I really hope they keep the integrity of the books.

I loved this book! Glad you enjoyed the read. Katniss is one of my favorite modern characters. I just finished the series about a month ago, and I felt my love for the series decreased with each book. But it was still enjoyable overall.

I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.
