Five for Friday & Christmas In July Day 4 & 5 Writing Sale

I am linking up to Doodle Bugs Teaching for a little five for Friday!
1.  I am recovering from Vegas.
I met THE Paul Edelman and he knew who I was!  TpT has changed my life for the better.  I don’t want to know what my life would be like without TpT.  I have met the most amazing friends.  I just wish we all lived closer.

The Vegas events was a bit overwhelming, the rooms were filled with people.   I felt my high school social anxiety kick in at the Wednesday Blogger Meet up and the TpT happy hour.   I was glad I had a job to do greeting people at the door at the Blogger Meet Up and handing out raffle tickets.   If I had not met the lovely ladies above numerous times before, I might have just hung out by myself at the bar.  If you saw my SDE sessions, I was fine during them and even threw in some humor. But for the first few minutes of my first session for I Teach First,  you could hear my voice shake and I seriously felt like crying.  I told myself to pull it together, I was being ridiculous and unprofessional.  Then, I looked to the session participants and they seemed to be so focused.   I thought “Hey, this is so much easier than teaching first grade, they are focusing! You got this.”  After that I felt my anxiety go away.  The more questions they asked, the better I felt.  So thank you if you were in the audience that day.  I really appreciate your attentiveness and questions.  Do you have to give yourself internal pep talks, too?  The TpT sessions were also a bit nerve raking but I had my fellow blogger/sellers there with me.  I could not have done it without Cara, Greg, Deedee, Elizabeth, and then Cara again in the afternoon.  Thanks guys.
Come back soon for a post about our huge meet up in Vegas.
2. It is day 4 of Christmas in July.
I am going to combine days 4 & 5 and put these two huge writing themed units on sale.

3. I have been working on my computer nonstop for the past week!
If you follow me on Instagram, you know my go to show to watch while I work is Gossip Girl.  So juicy!  I am already on season five.
I have been working on adding to and/or updating some packets.  Here is what I have fixed up this week.  If you already purchased, don’t forget to re-download for the updates.
I added some posters and writing paper to this packet and jazzed up the cover.
I added a calendar set to this plan book packet and the ability to add your students’ names to the checklists.
I added easier to edit Power Point pages to this packet!
I completely revamped my Bright Polka Dot classroom library system.  It now has levels and is in a primary font!
4. What’s up next?
I am working with a colleague to create a phonics scope and sequence.  There will be a list of 12 words for each week based on a phonic element.  Along with the words will be various word work activities.  Follow my blog and facebook fan page to be alerted to when this mega packet is posted to TpT.
5. My closet room is coming together!
If you follow me on Instagram, you might know I have a bit of a shopping problem!  This means that I need more closet space.   I am converting my old bedroom into a closet room with four sets of Ikea closets.  My brother is helping me by putting them together.  I cannot wait until it is done.
I hope you have a great weekend!
xoxo

I love your bedroom closet idea! I too have a shopping problem and feel like there couldn't possibly be a closet anywhere that is big enough for all my stuff.

    Have a great weekend!

I totally get your nervousness. Any time I have to speak to a group of adults my voice shakes and my hands shake. I know to keep my hands in my pockets until after the first few minutes. I need a closet re-do, also……hmmmm I may just do that today! Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I went to two of your presentations in Vegas and let me tell you… you were fantastic!!! I am very excited to try the wonderful ideas that I got from your sessions (I went to Close Read and Adventures in Spelling). Is the above packet (Words of the Week) the one you referred to during your spelling session? I loved your scope and sequence and how you had 12 words per week. I can't wait to grab this product from TPT as soon as it is available!!!

These are my absolute favorite first-week books for building classroom community, easing those first-day jitters, and setting a positive tone from day one.
From Our Class is a Family, All Are Welcome, The Book of Rules, and so many more — these stories never miss.

Which one is a must-read in your classroom? Drop it in the comments and I will send you the links to my follow up activities!

I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.

Save and use leftover colored copies as dividers. This makes them less bulky, than if you had used binder clips.
