This week we are visiting a farm. I love this trip – 12th time and it still does not get old. I just love feeding farm animals! To make the trip more meaningful to my students, I created a farm themed unit called Down on the Farm Literacy, Math, & Science Centers & Activities. It is a huge 143 page unit! This Columbus Craftivity and Printables Packet is by the talented, A Cupcake for the Teacher. I did not get to use the whole packet this year, but I plan on using more of it next year. I love the ship craft.

I created this math center packet a few years ago and it is still a favorite of mine.
Here is the FREEBIE. It is for a dice roll spelling type activity. The students roll the dice and see which animal comes up. Then they write the word on the recording sheet. They continue until one of the animal words has “won.” Then they complete the back of the recording sheet. I have included this file in the link for my visual plans, just scroll down after you download it.
I place the animal cards in a Kiddocube. It is a foam and felt cube with clear pockets. A friend of mine invented it and I have been using them in my classroom for years! I just love them.

In the packet, I give you two options for math manipulatives: 1. Print and punch them. 2. Spray paint lima beans. I did both and I have to say that the students preferred the lima bean counters and seemed to be more focused, plus they were easier for them to grab.

I just noticed that you use the same reading series as I do. I am about two weeks ahead of you in the series. I so wish I was a little behind you so I could grab all of these goodies! You make such great connections to the stories and expand on the stories so well! I am so bummed…. I wonder what you're doing for little red hen week?..!! 😉 So fun!!

Thanks! We don't have The Little Red Hen but we do have The Enormous Turnip in the series. We don't have to use the reading series anymore, but I use it for the good stories like, I Went Walking. I started visual plans last year if you want to check some of them out, click my "visual plans" tab.
