Currently – June!

It is finally June!  Our endless winter has ended.  School however does not end until June 26th!   All of the social media posts I see about teachers being done… thanks for rubbing it in!  You all make me jealous.  I do however LOVE my group of first graders.  They are kind, helpful, and appreciative kiddos.  They are what I envisioned teaching to be like, when I decided to be a teacher.   I don’t want them to leave me.

On to Farley’s Currently Linky for June:

Listening: Now that I am a new homeowner, I am addicted to HGTV.  Also, I have not really figured out Verizon FiOs, so I am sticking to the channel that turns on when I turn on the TV.  I had Optimum at my old house, but FiOs ended up being cheaper and let me pick the channels I wanted.  Hopefully, no one ever comes over who wants to watch sports…they will be out of luck.

Loving:  As I said above, my class is so sweet.  I feel so lucky and love going to work everyday.   I am going to miss these guys.   It might also help that I have a rare, low class size of 18!  This is not the norm for my district.  It just happened to be a small group of first graders and I had three students move.  It is just so wonderful for small group instruction (centers and guided reading).

Thinking:  I am thinking about decorating 24/7!  I should be pinning my products on Pinterest, but instead I am obsessed with decor pins.   You can check out my latest pins by clicking {HERE}.

Wanting:  I just want to do it all!  I am doing Whole30 again, trying to go to the gym, unpack, decorate this house, teach, take care of four pets, and work on TpT.   Guess what, I cannot do it all and still actually sleep.  So for now, I have been focusing on Whole30 and unpacking/decorating.  I get to the gym once a week and of course I still have to teach.  I actually tried leaving my cats at my parents’ house while I had a few rooms painted here and my Greta escaped and fell in their canal! Thankfully,  my aunt and uncle saved her (they live next door).   So, now the cats are with me and of course they stepped in paint.

Needing:  I need to get back to work on my TpT products.  I have a few that need updates and a ton of ideas on my “To Do List.”   Did you see this article about TpT?

Summer Loving:   I LOVE summer.  I love the sun, I love the warmth, I love no alarm, I love having time to read, I just love it all.   I cannot wait to go back to Vegas this summer and see all my TpT friends and meet new ones.

Please, check out Farley’s post and donate to a cause that of course I support!
Happy June!

My husband and I just bought a house in February and are doing a bunch of renovations and decorating. I LOVE HGTV right now!
I am not envious of your end date. I have two days left and the kiddos and I are so ready for summer! Hopefully your last few weeks go smoothly and you can enjoy the end of the year with your kids!

So many of my fellow bloggers have bought new homes – it's putting a bug in me to do the same or at least make some upgrades to this 18 year abode! Good luck and have a wonderful summer!

I love reading about your classroom and new home renovations. The year for you is almost over – think about us Aussies who are in the winter months and have even longer to go until the end of the year.

📚 Back-to-school magic starts with the right read- 📚 Back-to-school magic starts with the right read-alouds!
These are my absolute favorite first-week books for building classroom community, easing those first-day jitters, and setting a positive tone from day one.
From Our Class is a Family, All Are Welcome, The Book of Rules, and so many more — these stories never miss.

Which one is a must-read in your classroom? Drop it in the comments and I will send you the links to my follow up activities!

How do you handle this situation? Do you put the How do you handle this situation? Do you put the new student at the end of the alphabetical list or do you start over with a new one?
I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.

This was my room decor before the pastels. It worked well to incorporate my old farmhouse items (my decor theme before that) and as a bonus it made my Ukrainian students smile (the sunflower is the national flower of the Ukrainian).

Save and use leftover colored copies as dividers. This makes them less bulky, than if you had used binder clips.
When you near the end of the week, pull the papers from the tray and sort into the weekday drawers and centers.
