So many of my followers told me that they say “You Get What You Get and You Don’t Throw a Fit!” after reading my post “You Get What You Get and You Don’t Get Upset!” I did not understand why that would be said, since to me it does not rhyme. I live in NY. Then Melissa of F is for First Grade commented that “get” and “fit” rhyme where they live! Click on the poster to download. I also updated my version and included it in the link. Enjoy!
*My font (Wish You Were a Shirley) is from KevinandAmanda.com and my graphics are from Pixel Papers. Both links are to the left.
Here is a book that goes with the theme of the sayings. Click the picture to check it out on Amazon.

It's so funny how a simple word like "get" is pronounced differently throughout the U.S. My roommate in college was from East Meadow and he taught me all about New York slang! I think your little phrase is "MAD GOOD"! Haha!

Ha ha! When I read your original poster, I had to stop and think, because in my southern accent "get" and "set" don't rhyme! When I teach short e, we have long conversations about how in the south we don't really pronouce the short e sound the correct way. My firsties always say and spell words like "get" and "hen" with the short i sound. Thanks for making another version of the poster for this Alabama girl.

That is so funny! I didn't realize that people say "get" differently! I grew up in Ohio & Illinois, but now live in TN…. so the southern drawl is hard to avoid living here! But I naturally say "get" to rhyme with "fit!" Thanks for sharing!

This is SOOOO true and sooo funny! I'm from LI and teach in Florida. I hear this on a daily basis and I always say the same exact thing to myself (get and fit don't rhyme!). Thanks for sharing!! =)

That's too funny! Yes, in the South where I live and teach, unfortunately we are guilty of rhyming "get" and "fit". We try, we try to get it right! I have managed to say "pen" and "ten" correctly….most of the time! Thanks for sharing!
Cassie
We say "fit" in Oklahoma too. Thanks for the poster my kids will love it because we say it often.

I think in the book Pinkalicious it is… don't throw a fit. That is the first time I had actually heard the quote & use it non stop now!!
SC Teacher 28
This is a very popular quote in my classroom. My kinders know if they complain they won't get anything the next time around. I can't wait to print and hang these up! Here in SC we say you don't throw a fit since with our southern drawls "get" and "fit" rhyme. Thanks for sharing these with us!

Certainly a SOUTHERN thing. I am from south ALABAMA as in I almost live in the Gulf of Mexico. GIT and FIT rhyme all day in my class:) I keep trying to make GET and UPSET rhyme but they just don't come out of my mouth correctly. I even recorded myself on my phone to see if I "heard" it recorded……Made me giggle.
Another saying in a southern classroom, "LIfe is not FAIR, FAIR is where you eat cotton candy and ride the ferris wheel."
I love your BLOG:)

Where did you buy your "YOu get what you get…." book? I have priced it on Amazon and it is very exspensive. Barnes and NOble does not carry it. Thanks
