I am linking up with Latoya Reed of Flying into First Grade and sharing three things about myself related to my initials.
My name is Erica Brooke Bohrer.
So for E – I am an expert on dog breeds. As a kid I studied various dog breed encyclopedias and had to write a report for my parents on the dog breed I thought would best suit our family. I narrowed it down to the American Cocker Spaniel and West Highland White Terrier We ended up going with the American Cocker Spaniel because they are better water dogs and we had no pet allergies in the family. My aunt and uncle ended up with a Westie because of my research and they are now on their fourth one! Sadly my beloved Cocker Spaniel, named Hannah, only lived to be six years old. She was an awesome dog, she loved people, and was a great swimmer. She died of lymphoma after a 3 month battle. She was only supposed to live 3 weeks, but I think taking her on the boat and to the beach all the time and doing things that made her happy, helped her live longer.
B is for Boating – I am a boater and thanks to TpT, I bought my own small, used boat this summer! I am naming it the “Nautical Niles” after my dog Niles.
B is for Binghamton – I went to college at Binghamton University which is in upstate NY. It is actually the hardest SUNY (State University of NY School) to get into. I was thrilled to get in. Unfortunately, they did not have an undergraduate education program. So, I received a degree in Literature and Rhetoric and had to go on for a Master’s Degree in Education. I am actually certified to teach both Elementary General Education and Secondary English. That’s me with my roommates on graduation day. I had tons of highlights back then!
Thanks for reading! Be sure to check out Latoya’s linky!

Now you are up to 20 :)! You need to read the link in the post from Ladybug on how to make your name in comments clickable. It really will help with gaining followers. I am glad that my post helped! Good luck and thanks for the kind words.

You are welcome! We were all so sad when Hannah passed away. My aunt's Westie lived a long life and we would always think of her whenever we saw him and wish that she had a chance to grow old. Both of my dogs are now over the age of six and I feel so blessed to have had them in my life for this long. Niles is 13 1/2!
The Cozy Classroom
Yay, I am glad I wasn't the only kid studying the D encyclopedia 🙂 I would spend hours looking at different dog breeds too. As a joke this year,my siblings wrapped up my parent's D World Book and gave it to me as a Christmas gift.
I am happy to be your newest follower, and hope you will swing on over to my blog if you have a chance!

Hi Erica!
I love your blog and books… you have so many great ideas for the classroom! I had some questions for you about getting books published through Scholastic. Perhaps you can answer them for me. Is there an email address I can reach you at?
Thanks so much!

I get asked a lot about becoming a published author. I wrote a post about it here: http://www.ericabohrer.blogspot.com/2011/05/teachers-as-published-authors.html

I love reading your blog posts Erica! You are always so real and relatable. Now if you could use that expertise on dogs to teach me how to potty train my shitzu. Ahhhh!

Ugh, little dogs are so hard! My Chihuahua goes by the back door all the time. He refuses to ring the "Poochie Bell." My other dog rings the bell to go out. I think the Chihuahua just does not want to go outside and do stairs because he is 13.

I really like that you refer to Binghamton as 'upstate' New York! I am from 1000 islands, which is 4 hours NORTH of Binghamton, and that is what is upstate New York =) So many people don't know that life exists north of the NY city =) Small world!
Erica Bohrer
I think it is all relative to where you are from. If you are from the city area, anything beyond West Chester counts as upstate. We would call the whole huge area of NY past West Chester "upstate." I am sure it is the same with calling places "downstate." NY is huge! My cousins went to Buffalo and that is eight hours away from here! I have always wanted to go to Thousand Islands! One of my Bing friends said she and her family rented a house boat and went around there for a week. It sounded beautiful.

Love that you bought a boat with your TPT sales. I love being on a boat too! And that's where I spend a lot of summer days! 🙂

When I am out on the water all my stress melts away! I love it.

I got my Master's Degree from SUNY Binghamton too. Mine is in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading, so I can teach remedial reading K-12.
Karen Bromley was a professor when I was there. I think she still is. Did you have her?

Michele, I got my Master's here on Long Island from Dowling. I wish I had gotten it from Binghamton or Columbia! Dowling was the type of college where you signed your name and got in. It was so different from Bing and a ton more money! It did the job and I had nice professors and small classes. My mom was an adjunct there, so I got to use her parking pass. That was the biggest selling point for me!
Across the Hall
Loved learning more about you! I knew you loved animals, but I had no idea you were a dog breed expert! And I am with you, those sunny warm days definitely extended Hannah's life with you!

Thanks! When she got to hot, she would lay in the shallow water and relax. She was such a water dog. My dogs now are not true water dogs, but they will get wet if they have to. I actually would never have gotten a Chihuahua based on my research. Niles just happened to be at the right place at the right time and he was adorable!
Denice Shipley
I love your blog and have about all of your TPT products. Now, I learned you are animal lover, too. We have three dogs and two cats. I have a precious Chihuahua named Wesley that is the sweetest dog ever. They need to do a link party. ;0) Thanks for all of the tips, as I have just started my blog a few weeks ago. I am so excited, I got my first follower! Thank you for being so inspiring!
