At 39 years old, I had my first and hopefully only wedding. I Pinterest planned the wedding down to the last little detail. I hemmed and hawed over font choices and flowers, but to be honest in the long run, none of that really mattered. What mattered was the actual event of marrying my best friend and celebrating with 120 of our close friends and family. Since many of you have been with me and this blog since my horribly single days of 2011, I thought I would share a bit of the big day with you. You kind words and support over the years have kept me going and blogging. If you are just stopping here via Pinterest, I hope you find some useful wedding ideas. This is a teaching themed blog, but I do venture into lifestyle type posts every once in a while.

I choose The Old Field Club because of a few things, with cost being the #1 deciding factor. I say “I” because my husband was very easy going about the whole process and trusted my judgement, leaving me and my mother with the task of finding a venue. My mom LOVED looking at venues. It was not my personal favorite thing to do but I knew what I was looking for. I was looking for a place that would fit in with my vision of a greenery style wedding with lots of white. I had hoped for a barn or vineyard out east on Long Island, but those venues had huge site fees which did not even include food! I also needed a place that had an outdoor space where we could have the ceremony. The Old Field Club did not disappoint and fit my vision perfectly.
The outdoor ceremony area of The Old Field Club had an outdoor pergola and benches for the ceremony. The greenery in the photo on the pergola was actually left over from the Saturday wedding the day before! My florist called me and sent me a picture to ask if I wanted to leave it…I said yes, just take off the yellow flowers, which had adorned the corners.
This was my husband’s second wedding and I was pushing 40. I was torn about a bridal party. Did I go and ask every friend of whom I had ever been in their wedding to be a bridesmaid? They all had gotten married 10 years or more earlier. How do you narrow it down? In the end the solution was that we did not have a bridal party, just Tommy’s two boys as ring bearers. Tommy’s best friend got ordained online so that he could be the one to marry us and be a part of our big day. My aunt and his sister did readings from the bible.
My “Something Blue” and “Something Old” was a vintage tie tack which was my great-grandfather’s. I had the sapphire and diamond tie tack pinned to the base of the bouquet.
The Old Field Club is not far from a beach and cabana area. We actually took the above and below pictures before the ceremony so that we could enjoy our cocktail hour.
Here are some photos of the greenery line I chose from Etsy. They were all digital downloads that you had to print yourself. I did not mind, I have a good color laser printer and paper cutter at home. I also ordered some card stock from Amazon. For the larger signs, I had them printed on foam board at Staples.
The mantle at the Old Field Club needed to be decorated. To save money, I purchased faux greenery from Target and told my florist to add real flowers to it. As it turned out, the wedding the day before had left their garland behind, so that was weaved in, too! I had my own collection of vintage brass candlesticks, borrowed 6 or so from a very sweet neighbor, and sent my mom to a local vintage market to find more! I got the candles themselves from HomeGoods.
Our cake was amazing! I am not a cake person but this carrot cake/yellow cake from Black Forest Bakery was not only beautiful, it was delicious, too. My cousin’s wife, Christina, made the cake for us and she did an incredible job. She even placed the flowers on the cake. Half of the cake was carrot cake and the other half yellow cake.
Before I end this post, I would also like to thank Cher from Hairstories for doing my hair. I have been going to her for my hair for probably 16 years! My makeup was done by Alex and I loved it, you can check out Alex’s instagram here. I still wanted to look like “me” on my wedding day and both Cher an Alex helped me achieve that goal.
Thank you for allowing me to share my wedding day with you! As always, feel free to pin away.
