I have always wanted to create a sand center for my students and Michaels was there to help me out with the supplies I needed! I am so excited to be participating in the #Create2Educate Sweepstakes. I hope you read on for directions on how to create your own Sand Center and enter the sweepstakes!
I used my Silhouette Cameo to create the “Sand Center” words. Don’t feel like you need to use a Cameo, I LOVE mine and will take any excuse to use it. You don’t necessarily have to write anything on your bins.
I love these bins from Michaels because they stack and are easy for little hands to open and close. You don’t want sand flying everywhere!
One container of colored sand did the trick. I bought two of each color thinking I would need more and I didn’t.
The pail above was 39 CENTS. I am serious. Run to Michaels now and grab them. They are 60% off and a great small size for centers.
To stick with one color sand or not? I usually try to prevent fighting at centers by having everyone have the same supplies. I just really enjoyed the various sand colors and decided to take the risk.
I put twelve lines on the sandcastle. The students record their words on the lines. If you want to have the students complete the center with less words, whiteout some lines.
I created the cards by inserting a table in Power Point. Then I added my words using KG Primary Penmanship font. Next, I added clip art from this FREE packet by Mel of Graphics from the Pond. You can easily create your own word cards following the same steps.
I am going to leave the bows off of my bins, so that they stack easier.
I hope this post inspired you to try a “Sand Center” in your classroom.
Don’t forget to enter to win the #Create2Educate sweepstakes!

I didn't know that Michael's had colored sand. I will have to get some. I always used salt but colored sand is way more fun!
