Here is a news clip of the devastation here in Lindenhurst.
After the hurricane hit:
Not my car…but ouch!
Everyone helping out after the hurricane:
Supplies collected by the Lindenhurst Teacher’s Union, Lindenhurst residents, and the Lindenhurst Fire Department.
A few parents helped organize a “Trunk or Treating” event around a local park. We wanted to make up Halloween to the kiddos who did not get a chance to trick or treat. It was so much fun and I am so glad I went and was able to bring a smile to children’s faces.
Sophie and Niles came along. They were a hit with the kids.
Here are some Hurricane books you might want to check out on Amazon.com.

Erica, I am from Lindenhurst also and I am lucky to have only lost my power. My heart goes out my Lindenhurst neighbors and friends who have lost so much during Sandy. My granddaugthers attend Harding Ave Elementary School. Not sure on the damage that school has but it is south of Montauk so only time will tell. Thank you for the support. Ann Marie

I'm from Westchester, NY and boy–I'm glad you are safe! I'm so sad what has happened to LI, NJ and parts of Westchester. What a great idea with your unit and for the trunk or treating! Our festivities were cancelled due to the outages and I am still waiting for word if we are going back to our school and being relocated again.
Stay safe!

Hi Erica! I'm convinced your pics of your parents' neighborhood is my old neighborhood…Bergen Point, Sandpiper and Dolphin Lanes. We were original owners on 312 Dolphin…my parents moved in 2002 and I live in the Capital Region. Back in the day there was no sewage plant, the golf course was in its infancy, and Angelica Court had not yet been developed, nor was there a turn off into the neighborhood. At the time, you may or may not know, the two street neighborhood was known as Longwood Harbor. How is everyone doing with the aftermath? I don't have much info, but it seemed like the neighborhood took quite a hit. Best, Debra

Yes, my parents live on Sandpiper Lane. Only the house on the corner of Old Bergen got hit hard with flooding. Everyone else is doing well, just water in the crawlspace. Thanks for asking. I love their neighboorhood.

Erica I was in Lindenhurst yesterday helping a friend. I'm so sorry for your town, it was hit pretty bad. I live in Huntington, we were out of power for a while and lost a lot of trees but nothing like the devastation on the South Shore. I hope you raise a lot of money with your great unit.

I'm from Queens so I know what you're going through. The teachers in my school volunteered in the Rockaways on election day. It's going to take months for NY and NJ to get out of this mess. I hope you raise a lot of money.

My niece and nephew live in Lindenhurst. They may even go to your school. I'm checking on that. They had their house destroyed in the storm and it is really tough on them. Thanks for all you are doing. We are trying to support from California but it is difficult not being there.

Hi Erica,
I just downloaded your hurricane packet and plan on using in for a service project lesson starting tomorrow. What a great idea! I’m a college student studying elementary education and will present this lesson to a first grade class. Would it be okay if the students wrote some letters of encouragement and mailed them to your class? I look forward to hearing back from you. I’m glad you are safe!!!
Thanks,
Jessica
Erica Bohrer
You can send them to my mom's school. My student's were not really affected by the storm, except for lost power. We are further north from the bay. You can email her at mbohrer@lindenhurstschools.org.
Thanks! I appreciate you buying the packet.
Jessie Lynn
Awesome! I will connect with her. Thanks so much.
Barbara
Wow! I'm really sorry for you and your community. That's really tough. Glad you're safe though!!
