Earth Day Ideas for the Classroom

Earth Day Classroom Ideas

Check out these Earth Day ideas to use in your classroom! I love teaching my students about Earth Day in April. There are so many great children’s books out there and I have created some cute and engaging Earth Day projects that you can do with your students.

Introduce Earth Day with one of these Earth Day picture books! I have them all linked below.

Earth Day Picture Books

I like to incorporate my read alouds and holiday theme into my morning meeting slides. I keep them up and refer back to them throughout the day.

I have a sample day of Earth Day Slides that you can grab below.

Use this little Earth stuffy for the morning greetings. He also looks super cute on a book shelf!

After introducing Earth Day and what it is, you might want to begin this mosaic Earth craft. It takes a while, so start it earlier in the week!

Earth Day Display

It is very calming for the students to create this large mosaic Earth from scraps of construction paper. Plus, you are reusing!

How to create the large Earth Day Paper Mosaic Earth:

  1. Save scraps of construction paper throughout the school year or ask for students to bring in old catalogs and magazines.
  2. Look for these colors: green, blue, white, and pink/red.
  3. Cut the colors into little squares or have the students rip them into smaller pieces.
  4. Draw the Earth on large chart paper or bulletin board paper. Draw a large heart in the middle of the Earth.
  5. Use a colored marker or pencil to write which color goes where.
  6. Lay it on a table.
  7. Show students how to put a dot of liquid glue on the back of the colored paper squares and then glue down.
  8. Let students work on the Earth in groups of 4 to 6. *This would make a great center to do the week of Earth Day.
  9. Let the completed Earth mosaic craft dry before hanging up.
  10. Hang up the completed Earth mosaic with some sort of follow up activity, like the ones featured below.
Earth Day Graphing Craft

These Earth Day Graphing Crafts incorporate math. Students graph, tally, and analyze the data for their favorite ways to help the Earth: recycle, conserve (reduce), or plant a tree. Then they create a page topper to look like themselves.

Another cute and engaging craft that incorporates writing and art with Earth Day is this Be Cool To the Earth Craft:

Be Cool To the Earth Craft for Earth Day

This cool Earth Day craft is differentiated for the both the art and writing components. Check it out below:

If you are looking for a project to assign your students for Earth Day, you will love this adorable Recycled Robot Earth Day project. The students create “robots” with their families out of things from their recycling bin. They write about them and share them in class! You could even have parents in for the sharing party!

During center time you could use these Earth Day Search – Read – Write The Room themed cards to go with any word list and they are free for you!

🌻Sunflower Classroom Decor Room Tour🌻 This was my 🌻Sunflower Classroom Decor Room Tour🌻

This was my room decor before the pastels. It worked well to incorporate my old farmhouse items (my decor theme before that) and as a bonus it made my Ukrainian students smile (the sunflower is the national flower of the Ukrainian).

Save and use leftover colored copies as dividers. This makes them less bulky, than if you had used binder clips.
When you near the end of the week, pull the papers from the tray and sort into the weekday drawers and centers.

Probably a little late to this Kinda Chic trend bu Probably a little late to this Kinda Chic trend but I am old 😂.
Yes, I still dress up everyday. I only wear sneakers on dress down days or for field trips, but I am not going to judge you for what you wear. I have seen teachers running after kids, so I get wearing sneakers to work. I love shopping, plus dresses are just more flattering and easier for me to wear.

I have always had a very organized and clearly labeled classroom. That is my calm. Some FB ladies have said it is too busy but it works for me. I have never seen a kid getting distracted by it, there is so much more to distract them…like other kids.

I started small group weight training classes @elevationfitnessli in March of 2025 and have been going regularly. I enjoy meeting and becoming friendly with the other teachers at our 4:30 classes. I also love that I can see physical changes as well. Pull-ups are so hard but I am proud of my progress.

I still love teaching after 24 years. I don’t love how it has become harder than it was when I started (bigger class sizes, more behaviors, more curriculum to cover, etc.) but I still love connecting with my students and helping them grow. We can retire at 55 years old, as a tier 4 teacher, and I think I will be ready then to go. I am lucky that I have been able to stay in the same grade for almost all of those 24 years!

I have been a TpT seller since 2008 and a blogger since 2011! Thank you all who have been with me over the years and welcome new teacher friends!
