Letter Writing

In my first grade classroom, we have been working on our letter writing skills.  The students are having a blast!
We start our unit with an intro to letter writing with the adorable book, Please, Write Back.  I let the students choose to write to whoever they want.  Some of my sweeties, chose to write to me.
We also learned about persuasive letter writing through Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type  and Giggle, Giggle, Quack.

Another favorite series for persuasive letter writing is the I Wanna Iguana, I Wanna New Room, and I Wanna Go Home books by Karen Kaufman Orloff.  My students and I love to laugh and these books deliver the laughs!

If you want to continue the laughter and the persuasive letter writing, check out The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home.

This year we did not get to do our Tooth Fairy letters but here are photos from years past.

I encourage you to check out my Letter Writing resource on TpT for more ideas and letter writing themed printables.   I thoroughly enjoy teaching this unit.

I also have this freebie for you.   Just click to download from Google Drive.

Here are the links to a few of the many letter writing themed books I utilize:

At the end of last year, many of my students said that was their favorite thing we did. Their faces when they tasted the sour Granny Smith apple slices were so cute!

As a NYer, I remember that day well. I knew people who passed away in the towers. I knew people who have passed away since then through 9/11 related illness. Sadly, my sister-in-laws father was one of them.

I still do even though I feel a ton more confident doing them. It helps having been in the same grade for 24 years.
