SDE Texas Conference for 1st Grade Teachers

First, let me say that I had the best time ever presenting for SDE in Texas on Sunday.  I had never been to Texas before.   The teachers who came to my conferences were the most enthusiastic and attentive attendees.  You all made my job easier and I LOVED meeting all of you.
As promised, here are links to the products I shared during my presentations and a few slides from the presentations.   Just luck below the images for the links.
PS – My whole store is on sale, just for you!

Mindset:

*Some of the free file links are through GoogleDrive.  If you are unfamiliar with how to download from there, read this post.  You don’t need to request access, just the little arrow that points down.
Click the image below for more free guided reading planning sheets.
These are freebie in my friend, Janine Every’s store:
Other resources and ideas shared:
The reading strategy posters above were made by sending a png image to Costco photo department.  The png’s are included in this packet.

These are not finished yet, but when they are done, I will add them to my Bear Snores On Close Reading Packet.

I found this idea on Pinterest, I am not sure where the original pin is…but whoever thought of this…genius!  You tape a ribbon in the back of the book and then flip it over and the kids use it as a bookmark.  No more, opening their notebooks to the middle of the book or searching for the right page.

My book baggies are from ReallyGoodStuff.com
Here is a slide from my presentation about center set up.
I talked about managing behavior using Classroom Dojo.  You can read more about it in this post!
Here some packets that I mentioned in my post.  You can click on the covers to check them out in my TpT store.

I don’t have this file to share.  A colleague created it for the Smartboard and then I made the students’ names out of “alphabets” from Lettering Delights.

Some more resources I shared:

Wow thank you for such an informative post! I'm very appreciative to have the resources that you used for your presentation right at my fingertips. I already put the Scholastic reading response sheets on my Amazon wish-list! Do you use these solely in small groups or with whole group too?

I leave the same door decor up all year long! I can’t tell you how many times students will walk into the wrong classroom and this helps my students to go in the right one every time.

How do you handle this situation? Do you put the How do you handle this situation? Do you put the new student at the end of the alphabetical list or do you start over with a new one?
I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!

5 things that are worth the money for your classro 5 things that are worth the money for your classroom!

1. A color printer. We don’t have color printers at school and this has saved me from having to remember to print something at home. I brought in mine from home and then bought a new one for home.
2. MacBookAir - This is my personal laptop. I bring it home on weekends and holidays but for the most part I keep it at school. I did need approval to get it on our district WiFi, which meant my phone could not also be on the WiFi. There is a one device per teacher rule.
3. A lay-flat binder for my plan book, dismissal binder, and sub binder. These save so much space and they are flexible.
4. A laminator at school and a laminator at home. It took me many years before I caved and bought another one but again, it saves me from remembering to laminate at home and I can also laminate during snack time and preps. Matte laminating is also worth the splurge.
5. My teacher toolbox! This toolbox has been with me for over 10 years, I just change out the labels to go with my decor theme. Everything has a place and it keeps my desk organized.
