Batty for Freebies, a Contest, and Come Meet Me!

Last we started Bats and we will continue on with the unit this week!   I updated a my Batty for Bats TpT file to include a file folder word wall, a few little centers, more informational writing papers (see my informational post for more ideas), and bat lifecycle activities.    Please, redownload if you have already purchased.   If you have not purchased, you can check out the file here!

I pulled a few pages from the packet to give you some freebies.

My full Batty for Bats file includes an interactive Bat Life Cycle.

The Roll and Write a Word Center is meant to be used with Kiddocubes.  I love mine and I love them even more because a teacher friend of mine created them.   You can win your own set by entering at the end of this post.

For more on bats check out…

We only just started our bat unit towards the end of the week.  Halloween and finishing up our pumpkin informational writing took priority.

I was introduced to this new schema chart by a consultant for my district.  The kids LOVE moving the post-its over when we confirm our schema.  The cards are included in my Batty for Bats Packet.

Bats are perfect for introducing students to informational text features!  We began two weeks ago with pumpkins and now the students run up to me everytime they see a bold print word or a heading.  They get so excited!   Click here to go to my post and snag the cards below.
Do you live near Oak Lawn, IL?   If so, I would love to meet you.  I will be presenting at the Conference for Illinois Kindergarten Teachers.  I taught Kindergarten before I taught first grade and I have been a presenter for my own teacher center for years.  For more information, click the link below!

Now on to the contest!  Would you like to win your own set of Kiddocubes and a unit of your choice from me?  Enter below!

I love how you used post-its on your modified KWL, so the kids can move them after they have learned about the topic. So smart!! Thanks for the freebies, ideas, and giveaway! You rock! 🙂

I saw those Kiddo-Cubes in another post of yours, and I LOVE them! I want to win a set! I know they would get used in my classroom! Your friend is so creative to think of that!

Also, you said you got the bat life cycle graphics from Whimsy Workshop. I feel so silly, but I went to her shop looking for them, and I couldn't find them. Did she make them exclusively for you or something? I wasn't sure if I just missed them or if they weren't available.

Thanks for the opportunity to win!

This was my room decor before the pastels. It worked well to incorporate my old farmhouse items (my decor theme before that) and as a bonus it made my Ukrainian students smile (the sunflower is the national flower of the Ukrainian).

Probably a little late to this Kinda Chic trend bu Probably a little late to this Kinda Chic trend but I am old 😂.
Yes, I still dress up everyday. I only wear sneakers on dress down days or for field trips, but I am not going to judge you for what you wear. I have seen teachers running after kids, so I get wearing sneakers to work. I love shopping, plus dresses are just more flattering and easier for me to wear.

I have always had a very organized and clearly labeled classroom. That is my calm. Some FB ladies have said it is too busy but it works for me. I have never seen a kid getting distracted by it, there is so much more to distract them…like other kids.

I started small group weight training classes @elevationfitnessli in March of 2025 and have been going regularly. I enjoy meeting and becoming friendly with the other teachers at our 4:30 classes. I also love that I can see physical changes as well. Pull-ups are so hard but I am proud of my progress.

I still love teaching after 24 years. I don’t love how it has become harder than it was when I started (bigger class sizes, more behaviors, more curriculum to cover, etc.) but I still love connecting with my students and helping them grow. We can retire at 55 years old, as a tier 4 teacher, and I think I will be ready then to go. I am lucky that I have been able to stay in the same grade for almost all of those 24 years!

I have been a TpT seller since 2008 and a blogger since 2011! Thank you all who have been with me over the years and welcome new teacher friends!
