New Year’s Resolution: Downtime

source Lacquer and Laughs

I am linking up with my amazing friend, Amy of Step into 2nd with Mrs. Lemons for Downtime.

My resolution is to do Yoga.  I never do it because I feel like it is a waste of time at the gym.  Like I could spend an hour burning tons of calories instead of laying around.  Also, at the end when you just lay there – I cannot not stop my mind from running through my To Do List or from thinking up new TpT things.  Then when I do try and clear my mind, I just want to go to sleep!  I am so afraid I will fall asleep and they will have to kick me to wake me up.  So as you can see, Yoga is going to be a big challenge for me but I think I really need it.  I need to de-stress, find my center…yada yada yada!

What I do now in downtime:

Read!  I don’t read nearly as much as I would like to during the school year.  In the summer, I fly through books.   I just finished Gone Girl this week.  I loved it.  My friend and I have a little book club of sorts.  She and I read the book and then go see the movie.  Just saw Twilight: Breaking Dawn and loved it!

Sleep!  I am a sleeper.  I could nap at a moment’s notice.
Yes, they all want to nap with me!  Click here to check out the pillows on Etsy.
My pets!  Love spending time with my fur-children: Niles, Long Haired Chihuahua, 13; Sophie, Havanese, 6.5; Ella, long haired black cat, 5; Greta, tiny brown tabby, 4
Boating!  In the summer I am always out on a boat.  I have my own 17 foot Key West.

My friend Diana comes with me when her husband is working.  She brings her dog, Chewie!  We look like the puppy party boat!

Hop over to Amy’s blog to link up!
If you want to do something in your downtime…hit up the YouTube video of Sweet Brown.  Love that lady!!!!

Ugh Sweet Brown – I love that woman!

And can I just say how stinkin' precious Niles is?! I have a long hair Chihuahua named Willow. She's 3. I love every second of her — She looks a lot like your sweet baby but is cream colored with white spots.

    Erica,
I need to try to find time for myself in the new year. I need to leave school before dinner-time and not be the first in the lot in the new year. I think Yoga sounds awesome but I too would be scared I would fall asleep. Thanks for all the amazing things you make. I love your blog and your store…..

I know I've never commented on your page before, but I've been following you for a year and a half- def. do the yoga! I am a 20-something 1st grade teacher in MD and have often thought of getting my yoga certification to teach at a gym on week nights/weekends, it def. helps with the anxiety and stress of our profession! I highly recommend! Take it seriously and know you are better your BODY and MIND. Good luck, chickie! P.S. L.O.V.E. the boat. You look like one cool chickita!

Yoga sounds great! I know what it is like to have that to-do list constantly going in your brain. I workout while my boys are at karate the the YMCA and sometimes I skip my workout to sit and grade papers! Do it for you:)

I tried Yoga years ago… All I could ever think about was all the stuff that I needed to be doing at home! I stressed the whole time! My instructor and I had a talk and he told me that maybe yoga wasn't for me, right then! I never get stressed over things… But yoga stressed me out, lol. My doctor told me last year that I should try to relax more, and she told me to just watch tv… Without multitasking. I couldn't do it 🙂 sigh…..

I never thought I would like Yoga, either and had never tried it until last year. I absolutely LOVED it. The instructor absolutely made me clear my mind – it was my one-hour of HEAVEN in my week. I really need to look for another class. 🙂

I also read Gone Girl last summer at the beach and LOVED it! I saw that Reese Witherspoon signed on to produce and star in the movie adapation – whoot!whoot! I just read one of the other books by the same author last week…it was much darker, but a great thriller!

It sounds like you need to do a power flow yoga or a hot yoga class. Trust me when I say you will be thinking about your body, finding your balance, how your body feels, and generally working from the inside out to create a better you! You will feel like you are working out with these types of yoga classes. It is hard to clear your mind but the instructors give you great tools to help you let go and this is something everyone in yoga is always working on. Also I have fallen asleep at the en of yoga but woke up quickly after people started moving around. it is a judgement free zone in yoga class and it really helps relieve stress. I hope you find you enjoy it…give it a little while.

I know I am next for a new student (I have 24 kids and everyone else has 25), so I am holding off until the night before the first day. I wish I could just wait but I like modeling where their bags and mail goes, both of which are set up using numbers.

True story: One year on the first day, I had a no show. Then I was assigned a new student. That student fit perfectly in the alphabetical order spot that was left. I should have played the lottery or something. What were the odds of that?!
