Photos of My First Grade Classroom

This year, I had to move classrooms.  My old classroom had a bathroom in it and it was needed as a Kindergarten room.  So after nine years, I moved to the bathroom-free room next door.   On the plus side there is more space.  On the down side…O.M.G., kids ask to go to the bathroom a million times a day!

I updated a few things from last year’s polka dot theme.  Here are some photos of my classroom.  As always, feel free to pin!

These hanging signs were made by hot gluing my table signs to School Girl Style’s  19 inch black daisies and 14 inch black daisies!  Melanie is a genius for thinking up the combo.  I am just in awe of her decorative talents!

I got these lanterns from Amazon.com before I saw these on School Girl Style…Oh, well.
Click here to purchase this display.

I was inspired by Schoolgirl Style to use wrapping paper as bulletin board backing.  I purchased the wrapping paper at Marshall’s.  The large black storage bins are from Walmart.

The labels for this board can be found in my Back to School Organizational Forms and More packet.
I have created a packet to work with this “Read All About Me!” poster.  Click here to check out my Star of the Week packet.
I made these clothespins for the “Star of the Week” board.

For more information on classroom pets go to Critters in the Classroom!

These mailbox labels are in my Back to School Organizational Forms and More packet.  The mailboxes are two shoe organizers.  I had purchased them ten years ago and they were white.  They were looking so shabby.  So this year, I spray painted then black.  I had to use almost five cans of spray paint!

For my book bin labels, check out my Bright Polka Dot Classroom Library Labels.

Leveled Library Labels

This is my half-done literacy center board.  We have been easing into centers by just rotating by table.  Next week, we start with the smaller groups and I start pulling for guided reading.

I made these with my Cameo Silhouette!

My sweet friend Anna of Crazy for First inspired me to make these.  Click here to see her post on these storage draws from Big Lots.

The polka dot box is from Michael’s.

The graphics for the pencils are by Ashley Hughes.  Click here to check them out.

This adorable sign is from Rachel Lamb.  Click here to check it out.

These labels are in my Polka Dot Classroom Labels and Signs Packet.  The shoebox bins are from Target.

My Bright Polka Dot Number packet can be found here and my Bright Polka Dot Alphabet Posters packet can be found here.

Look Who’s Been Spotted in First Grade Door Decor. Click here to check the packet.

To get these for your own classroom, check out my Classroom Job packet.

The wire organizers are picnic organizers from CVS.  The plastic bins are from Big Lots.

Click here to check out these Polka Dot Word Wall Words.

The Word Wall Labels can be found here and the color labels are by Ashley Hughes.  You can find them here.  In the top left corner of this picture, you can see Rachelle Smith‘s adorable and FREE punctuation posters.

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek into my classroom.  In my next post, I will explain how book baggies work in my classroom and you can have a chance to win a set of these from ReallyGoodStuff!

Love all your polka dots! Are your mailboxes shoe storage things? I have a set of classroom mailboxes but there are only 24 slots and I just hit 26 so I need a new thrifty option.

Yes, they are two 15 compartment shoe storage units from Target. They were originally white and after ten years, they looked pretty shabby. So four cans of black spray paint later…they became black!

I LOVE your color combo and polka dots…your room is amazing. I have never had a bathroom in my classroom so my kiddos bladders get trained like mine to only go at certain times during the day. I think one of the things I love most about your room is your posh room for your guinea pig!

If you get the chance, I would love for you to come check out my give away. You can win a prize package that includes a $50 Target gift card, a $25 TpT gift card AND a $25 Lakeshore gift card. =)

I love your classroom!! It is so bright and cheerful. My kids would never get bored in your classroom. Their teachers have clear boxes for everything and not much color compared to yours!! Way to inspire creativity!! And by the way – your bathroom passes are way to funny!! I couldn't stop laughing. I think I'm going to make those for our home, then maybe they won't forget to wash their hands!

🎂Happy 20th Birthday @teacherspayteachers ! I hav 🎂Happy 20th Birthday @teacherspayteachers !

I have been with TpT since 2008! I remember looking for a place where I could share my computer created resources with other teachers without having to set up my own website. TpT was suggested. I started off with a few Microsoft Word created resources 😬. At the time, the founder of TpT, Paul and his brother Dana, were single-handedly running things. I loved getting their newsletters.

In 2009 I was in a NY times article for TpT about who owns the copyright to teacher’s lesson plan ideas…the schools or the teachers. This was not the article the author or editors told me I would be in, but that is another story!

I stuck with TpT and creating resources and then in 2011, the site really took off and I met all these other amazing teacher-authors and finally met Paul in real life!

As a single homeowner on a teachers salary, I worked nights and weekends on TpT resources just to be able to afford to live in my little house. Then something amazing happened, my hard work paid off and I was able to get myself some breathing room. I am so grateful for TpT for giving my life purpose and financial freedom back in those days. Even though I am married now, I am so proud of myself for being able to own that little house (I still have it and rent it out) and buy my forever home in my dream neighborhood all by myself.

So many of you found out about TpT and so many more sellers joined. It truly became the open market place that Paul envisioned all those years ago.

TpT is still a big part of my life all these years (and hair colors) later. I know when I eventually retire from teaching, I will be able to do TpT full time. I love creating and sharing resources (880 and counting) with all of you.

Kids will tell you everything! You know it is goi Kids will tell you everything! You know it is going to be some drama when they start with “My mom told me not to tell you this but…”

Parents, we know sometimes they exaggerate and we follow up for clarification, if we are concerned. For example: One time a kid came in and said she was a 1 because her mom pushed her. A little boy who was her neighbor and also in the class, said BUT she was trying to save you from getting hit by a car!

What are some of the things you have heard or maybe your child has said?
