So Much to Do!

Get ready because I am going to vent a bit.  I know all of my blogger friends can relate.  I love being part of a community of overachieving #1 Teachers.  I just don’t know how some of you do it while looking great and having a family.  Are all teachers from the South skinny, happy, and beautiful?  LOL!
Here in NY we get a week off the week of President’s Day.  Before I became a homeowner, I would be spending this week at some tropical locale.  Now, that I am married to this money pit, I have to work my behind off on freelance teacher stuff. 
I bought this house thinking I could do it all myself; I don’t need any man to start my life.  Well, I have to say I am a tiny little thing and I cannot do it all.  Thank God my dad and my brothers live close by!  I cannot even carry the Costco cat litter into my basement with out dropping it down the stairs.  And with all that snow we had last month, my roof started leaking!  My brother had to come over and chip the ice off of it! 
I would love to be able to afford to fix all the broken things here, hence this vacation of work.  I do have to say though, that I love creating and coming up with new ideas. I am so happy to have this time off to work.  The problem is I have three projects going on at once and I am easily distracted!  My new book 20 Super Spelling Centers is due to Scholastic on March 1st, I am teaching a course on guided reading and working on TPT packet to give out to the participants, and I am trying to compile my Letter Writing Unit for TPT because I start that when we get back with my students. 
So stay with me this week and at the end I will hopefully be posting some great stuff.  Also, if you happen to know any smart, hunky, single men in their thirties send them my way!

  2. Sounds like you created a diet. Hmmm, 'Work it Off' by Erica Bohrer. Men will only add to the stress. My husbands lovely but needier than a child! You can always visit me in Florida for a summer vacation. Don't work too hard this week!

  4. I know exactly what you mean!!! But guess what?? You are one of the ones that make me feel like I can't do it all…miss I publish things for scholastic!!! But i too, decided to buy my own home and yep I have to call dad too! If you get more than one offer for a man…share the wealth!!

  5. Here's the best advice…It's OK to let something go- you don't have to do it all-especially all at once! Learn to say "no" at times and don't feel like you have to be superwoman all the time. Accept help from those around you- sounds like you have a great dad and brother. Enjoy life but not to the extent that it stresses you out. :>)
    When it feels like you are doing lots of things "good" but nothing "well" then you are doing too much. I'm just saying… :>)

    I can't lift the cat litter, either! I usually beg the check-out lady to use her mobile scanner so I don't have to pull it out of the cart. I've been teaching for 11 years and I have NO idea how people can be an effective teacher and a super mom. I've put off having children for years because I don't think I can be good at both.
    Our house is a total money/time suck, too. My spring break last year consisted of my husband and I remodeling the kitchen. Apparently, a pipe broke (that we weren't aware of) and the mold had spread throughout the bottom cabinets. Did I mention we are not handy at all. The kitchen is interesting now. I'm not sure if Bob Villa would approve.
    Anyway, I think you are amazing. You've accomplished so much in so little time. I'm JEALOUS! I only wish there were more teachers like you all (in bloggy sphere) where I worked.

  9. I think it's safe to say many teachers are jealous of you! I think creating materials for scholastic is huge, that's only something I would dream of doing! And I'm totally impressed with anyone selling their stuff on TPT, you go girls!
    I do wish you lived down here in the south though- it'd be nice to work with you=)

  12. I hear you and I am with you, girl! I am a teacher, mom, wife, and general jack of all trades you cannot carry big bags of cat litter by myself! I live in Florida and I break a sweat walking from the bedroom to the front door, lol. I just started blogging and finding out that there are other teachers out there who are dedicated in both time and talent has lifted my awareness that we are all in this for the love of teaching, period. You should be so proud of yourself for achieving what you have without anyone but yourself. Although, sometimes it is just as comforting to know that we have others in our life whom we can turn to for that leaky roof fix or gargantuan litter bag! No skinny here either, I did lose 60 pounds 2 years ago and keeping it off is a minute by minute challenge. Every minute I open my mouth and put something in it, is one more minute of sit ups!!

I am adding you to my google reader right now. 🙂 And hang in there, from what I've learned in these long 15 minutes, you are a pretty amazing educator (and I'm assuming amazing person. Can't be one and not be the other!)
